Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 13, 2026 · Last updated: October 13, 2026
Jelly Fork helps two or more people pick a place to eat by swiping on nearby restaurants. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We wrote it for what the app actually does. We do not sell your personal information.
Your location
- It stays on your phone. When you host a session, the Jelly Fork iPhone app uses your location to search Apple Maps for places near you. The search happens on your device.
- We never save your exact location. The session stores a search centre rounded to about 1 km, and each place in the deck carries its distance from you, so your group can see "1.2 mi".
- Location is only used while the app is open, and you can turn it off at any time in iOS Settings.
- On the website, when you start a session, your browser asks to share your location (or you type an area). It is sent once to our server only to pick places near you and is not saved: the session gets the same rounded centre and per-place distances. If you type an area, the text is looked up with OpenStreetMap's free search service (Nominatim).
What we store
We use Supabase to run sessions. For each session we store:
- The deck: the places in it, as returned by Apple Maps or, for sessions started on the website, from our own list of researched places (name, category, address, coordinates, website, phone, a cuisine label and distance). Decks are deleted about 24 hours after the session starts.
- Participants: the display name you type and a random account ID.
- Swipes: which places you liked or passed on. Only you can see your own swipes. Other people only see how many cards you have swiped and the final matches. Swipes are deleted with the deck.
- Matches: the places everyone liked, kept so you can see your match history.
- "Did you go?" answers, which are private to you. We also keep anonymous counts per place (for example "liked 12 times") to rank places better for everyone. These counts are not linked to you.
- Basic product events such as "session created" or "match", with no advertising identifiers, to understand whether the app works. Only we can read them.
- Push notification tokens, if you allow notifications, so we can tell you about a match.
Accounts
- No account needed. You can host and swipe without signing up. We create an anonymous account ID on your device. People you invite join in their browser with no account.
- Optional sign-in with Apple, Google or an email code keeps your history across devices. We receive your email address (Apple may give us a private relay address) and, if you choose, your first name.
- Delete your account any time in the app: Settings, then Delete account. This removes your sessions, swipes, matches, visits, tokens and events, and your login. Anonymous per-place counts stay because they are not linked to you.
Services we use
These providers process data on our behalf. The ones marked "if enabled" are only used when that feature is switched on.
| Provider | What for |
|---|---|
| Apple | Maps search, Look Around and place details on your device; Sign in with Apple; in-app purchases (StoreKit); push notifications (APNs). |
| Supabase | Database, sign-in and realtime updates for sessions. |
| Vercel | Hosting the website (jellyfork.app) and anonymous visit counts (Vercel Web Analytics: pages viewed, country and device type; no cookies, nothing that identifies you). |
| Resend | Sending your sign-in code by email. |
| Stripe (if enabled) | Processing Jelly Fork Pro payments on the website. Your card details go to Stripe, never to us. |
| OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) | Looking up an area you type on the website, and the small map on the back of a card. |
| Google (if enabled) | Sign in with Google; Google Places ratings and photos for Jelly Fork Pro; AdMob ads in the app and AdSense ads on the website for free users. |
| RevenueCat (if enabled) | Managing Jelly Fork Pro subscriptions. |
| An AI model provider (if enabled) | Jelly Fork Pro "AI picks": we send the list of places in your deck and your filters. We do not send your name or exact location. |
Ads (free version, if enabled)
If ads are turned on, the free version may show ads from Google AdMob on the match screen. Before any personalised ads, iOS asks your permission (App Tracking Transparency) and, where required, you will see a consent message. If you say no, ads are not personalised. Jelly Fork Pro has no ads.
On the website, if ads are turned on, free users may see Google AdSense ads: one under the place on the match screen, one on the "through the cards" screen, and now and then a card marked "Sponsored" in the deck (never in your first sessions, and never one you can swipe by accident). Google uses cookies or similar technology to show and measure these ads, and may personalise them based on your visits to this and other sites. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland you will see Google's consent message first and can say no. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we ask Google for non-personalised ads only. You can also opt out of personalised ads at Google's Ad Settings. Ads never load for Jelly Fork Pro members.
Children
Jelly Fork is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or export your data, and to object to certain processing. Use Delete account in the app or contact us. We do not sell or "share" personal information for cross-context advertising, except that AdMob ads in the app, if enabled, may be personalised only with your permission, and AdSense ads on the website, if enabled, may be personalised unless you opt out (Global Privacy Control is honoured as an opt-out).
